Sustainable Strategies for Urban and Landscape Regeneration Related to Agri-Cultural Heritage in the Urban-Periphery of South Milan

Urban Sprawl, and the fragmentation of territory associated with it, are factors degrading peri-urban areas in many European cities. The aim this research is to investigate role that Green Infrastructure (GI) Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) can have redefining areas, relating urban rural landscapes. case study focuses on Southern Milan periphery, at rural-urban transition fringe; transformation pressures, tendencies, local activities approached, main problems juxtaposed potentialities, defining simultaneously site’s vulnerability latent resilience. elaboration a research-by-design approach refurbishment interconnection disused open spaces abandoned buildings: converting them favor GI NBS network, through perspective Ecosystem Services (ES) enhancement, but also encompassing cultural heritage multicultural aspects. overall design demonstrates possibility deploying an infiltration strategy, landscape into fringe. objective articulate multiscalar methodology give insights how network rebalance urban-rural transitioning enhance ES, improving quality marginal both environmental socio-cultural terms.
